What is Infrared light? (Full paper by Thermo Riko available to donwload here)

About 50% of heat energy on the earth is provided by Infrared wavelength from Sunlight. Thus the Infrared radiation hs a critical effect on the Earth's climate.
Infrared wavelength is longer than visible wavelength (380nm ~ 700nm) and its range is between 700nm and 1,000,000nm (1mm).

Light wavelength diagram

The range of the infrared is divided into further 3 regions.

  • Near Infrared (NIR) : 780 ~ 3,000nm
  • Mid Infrared (MIR) :  3,000 ~ 50,000nm
  • Far Infrared (FIR) : 50,000 ~ 1,000,000nm (1mm)

Infrared is light in common with visible light thus it has properties of

Radiation, Transmission, Focus, Reflection, Refraction

However, these phenomena of properties are depending on the wavelength and materials. Near Infrared (NIR) is just next to the visible wavelength. Thus its phenomena of these properties are similar to that of visible light wavelengths.
Thermo Riko Co., Ltd. focused to this NIR wavelength and discovered that NIR wavelength can be transmitted through a Quartz rod with lossless by the combination of the precision Spheroid lens and Quarts rod. This technique enables NIR's thermal radiation energy to be tranfered without loss at a distance from its light source.
